Alma Thomas was a pioneer in the field of Abstract Expressionist painting. She was the first graduate from Howard University’s art department and the first woman of color to have solo shows at the Whitney Museum in New York and the Corcoran Gallery in Washington, D.C. Published in 2019, Alma Thomas: Resurrection celebrates the artist’s exhibition at the Mnuchin Gallery in New York. Vibrant reproductions of Thomas’s paintings combined with full-bleed installation shots bring the exhibition to life on the page. Critical essays and timelines give scholars a chance to dive into the life of this once-in-a-generation artist.
